Job summary We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic Clinical Academic Fellow (ST3 - 4 Level equivalent) to a 6-month fixed term post in the Respiratory Department at Mile End Hospital.
The post holder will support Tuberculosis clinics and assist in the recruitment to the RID TB trial at Mile End, Newham and Whipps Cross Hospitals.
Additionally the post holder will assist in academic work including; setting up and developing existing clinic trials in particular TB trials, settin gup developing and obtaining funding for respiratory medicine based research and assisting with the training of medical and nursing staff about trial in Respiratory Medicine, GCP and data collection.
The post is for 6 months in the first instance, renewable according to mutual agreement.
This would typically suit anyone wishing to pursue a career in Respiratory Medicine with an interest in academic medicine either prior to or as part of an Out of Programme Experience (OOPE) from their Specialist Registrar training programme.
You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and we encourage applications from trainees currently holding a respiratory training or equivalent is essential.
Main duties of the job Personal Development The post holder would be responsible for their own personal development plan, with regards to both service and academic work.
Regular appraisal must be undertaken with the academic leads : Dr. Kunst and Dr Pfeffer.
CPD and contribution to the growth of the clinical department as a whole will be actively encouraged.
The post holder is expected to maintain their personal CPD.
The post holder will be subject to appraisals.
Up to 10 days study leave per year for approved bona fide CPD will be supported by the Trust.
The Trust is committed to supporting CME for all non-training grades subject to locally agreed policies.
There is a modern and well-equipped Medical Education Centre on site at Whipps Cross with a comprehensive library, including Computer Assisted Learning room, lending and photocopying facilities.
An intensive and varied programme of postgraduate lectures and demonstrations is provided.

Job description Job responsibilities Service component: Clinical work in the department of Respiratory Medicine including 2-3 TB clinics The post holder will be asked to assist with the recruitment to the RID TB trial at Mile End , Newham and Whipps cross Hospital Administrative work such as review and follow up of abnormal results The post holder will assist in TB clinics Academic work Setting up and developing the existing clinical trials in particular TB trials supervised by academic research lead) Setting up, developing and obtaining funding for Respiratory Medicine based research under the guidance of academic team Assisting with the training of medical and nursing staff about trials in Respiratory Medicine, GCP and data collection Bedside teaching of students and postgraduate in research methodology, at a level compatible with experience and training of post holder Recruitment of patients to clinical Respiratory Medicine trials focusing on NIHR portfolio studies at Barts Health To support academic staff in conducting systematic reviews Working closely with research nurses at Barts Health to identify and recruit and enter patients into clinical trails Assist with departmental audit and retrospective studies in Respiratory Medicine To support members of the academic department of Respiratory Medicine in developing and rolling out their clinical trials To assist with write up, presentation and dissemination of the results of clinical trials To assist in translating the results of clinical trials to clinical practice Feedback to visiting external bodies such as Medical Schools, Specialty Schools, Deanery Participation in the academic departmental meetings Participation in guidelines development Person Specification Qualifications Essential MB MS or equivalent Full GMC Registration MRCP/ Paces Experience Essential At least 6 months training in Respiratory Medicine Completion of at least one audit Desirable Experience working as a senior trainee in Respiratory Medicine Knowledge Essential Clinical experience in Respiratory Medicine Demonstrable experience & interest in academic medicine Previous Respiratory Medicine experience at registrar or senior SHO/ST1/2 level.
Desirable Previous experience of teaching UK medical students.
Skills Essential Excellent communication and organisation skills and time management.
Able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Enthusiasm for academic and evidence based Highly motivated Other Essential Demonstrable experience & interest in academic medicine Desirable Research experience is an advantage GCP training an advantage and should be completed prior to taking up post Paper presentation at conference or publication
