James Hutton Ltd (JHL) are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to join a dynamic commercial team tasked with generating profitable income from national and international clients.
This exciting opportunity will focus on generating new customers for our natural products chemistry business.
As well as existing businesses analysing fish and vegetable oils, seaweeds, and medicinal plants, we are building a new business stream providing analytical services to the rapidly emerging medicinal cannabis and CBD oil sector.Working alongside world-leading analytical chemists with access to state-of-the art analytical equipment in our accredited laboratories in Dundee and Aberdeen, the postholder will play a key role in driving this business area forward.
We are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager, ideally with experience of technical sales and some knowledge of analytical chemistry or medicinal plant chemistry.
Our target markets include the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and food and drink sectors, and any experience of working in these sectors would be highly desirable.We pride ourselves on the quality of our work, and have the awards to confirm this, so any understanding of quality management, especially GMP or GCP would be beneficial.
Knowledge of the regulations governing cannabis production and processing would also be useful.
Many of our clients are overseas, so experience of working internationally is desirable.

Through focused marketing efforts, excellent customer management and effective business development, you will generate and qualify leads, produce proposals and close sales.  You will develop new customers, nurture and expand existing accounts, liaising between customers and the company, researching industry trends and proposing and identifying potential new services.Main Duties of PostholderIdentify and develop new business opportunities.  Grow and penetrate target accounts.  Build relationships both internally and externally to develop revenue opportunities and projects.  Secure new leads/opportunities to develop a robust pipeline.Manage customer relationships, negotiate and generate customer proposals and agreements that deliver results linked to our Key Performance IndicatorsMonthly reporting on sales and progress against targets.Work collaboratively with the Service Delivery Manager, and as part of the team of other Business Development Managers and lead scientists to bring new solutions/products/concepts from and to the market.Work cross functionally to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.Identify and assist in the development of new services where there is demonstrated customer demand.Attend tradeshows and congresses to advance customer opportunities.Person SpecificationEducation:EssentialDegree level education in Chemistry, Biology or allied sciencesDesirableMSc or PhD in Chemistry or Biology or equivalent.Experience:EssentialProven track record in technical sales and business development.Proven experience in planning and delivery of budget and sales targets.Strong customer focus, experience of responding to customer needs and proactive provision of solutionsFamiliar with analytical techniques.Familiar with working with academics, public sector or research organisations.DesirableInternational experienceStrong experience of selling Analytical Services in any of: Pharmaceutical, Neutraceutical, Food & Drink sectors.Familiar with management accounts, forecasting and investment proposals.Knowledge of GMP and/or GCP accreditationKnowledge of the regulations governing the growth and processing of medicinal plants such as cannabisOther SkillsEssentialHigh levels of self-motivation, organisation and time management.A strong team player who is a confident and articulate communicator at all levelsAble to undertake international travel.Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications.Can generate relevant sales and commercial proposals.DesirableAdditional language skills.Experience of using HubSpot or similar CRMAdditional notes/Requirements Ability to work autonomously and as part of a teamBenefits OfferedEmployee Assistance Programme (EAP) - A confidential service available to support employees and their families with work or personal problems.
