Job summary EPA Microbiology is the only Microbiology laboratory in the county!
We provide clinical diagnostic services to help doctors understand what is making their patients sick and how best to treat them.
This busy, exciting and essential service is run by an efficient and closely knit team, and the laboratory is very focused on staff wellbeing and teamwork.
We would love to get someone recruited who will integrate well into this dynamic, with previous lab experience to help you hit the ground running and also contribute to improving the service.Staff will be expected to participate in the departmental rota.
We work Monday to Friday on 3 shifts - early (8am-4pm) core (9am-5pm) and late (1pm-9pm), and on 8am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays and Bank Holidays.
Main duties of the job Performing routine laboratory procedures in all areas of the Bacteriology Laboratory according to laboratory policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Performing plate reading to identify significant isolates, set up and interpret antibiotic sensitivity testing.
Perform a range of automated techniques throughout the department including MS and automated MIC determination.
Be able to work both autonomously and as part of the Bacteriology team.Participate in the Microbiology on-call service following appropriate training.
Support trainees and BMSWs within the department.
Complete ongoing service training including CPD.
Work with other team members to plan workload and achieve collective goals.

Handles dangerous pathogens on a daily basis including containment level 3 organisms.2.
Communicates complex clinical technical service related test information to managers, consultants, nurses and other health care colleagues.3.
Answers telephone inquiries from Pathology users about test results and provide information about methodologies and service requirements.4.
Explains results when results do not agree with clinical presentation and investigate and problem solve situations as required.5.
Manages own work and day to day routine work in specialised services.
Responsible for processing both urgent and routine work to maintain routine turnaround times in line with Trust and Departmental policies.
