Assistant Psychologist

Job summary We are seeking to recruit an Assistant Psychologist to work in our team of Clinical and Forensic Psychologists for a period of 12 months.The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work within our secure hospital which provides both low and medium secure services providing medium and long-term treatment and input to patients with mental health difficulties, personality disorder and learning disability.
In addition, there will be the potential to contribute to the delivery of community based forensic services.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be involved in the completion of administrative tasks for the psychology department, desk-based tasks such as reviewing documentation, developing file based formulations and updating records.
It will also include the delivery of psycho-education and/or treatment groups, individual work with patients, the administration and interpretation of psychometrics, and some audit and service evaluation work.
There may be further tasks and requirements depending on clinical and departmental need.The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and have a high level of organisational skill, an ability to manage a demanding workload with competing priorities and have a particular interest in working with a forensic population.
You will support the work of the qualified team, clinically and administratively.
You will need to be a keen team-player, have good IT skills and exceptional communication abilities.A degree level qualification (BSc or BA) accredited by the BPS is essential for this post.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential Degree level qualification in Psychology A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion.
Basic IT skills Desirable Evidence of current CPD / or equivalent knowledge/learning.
Additional qualifications or course attendance in a related field Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, NSF, Social Inclusion ?
Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical are Experience Essential Appropriate knowledge/experience of working or placements within identified clinical area.
Desirable Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care Evidence / knowledge of promoting / supporting active user/carer involvement/participation.
Skills and Competencies Essential Able to demonstrate effective interpersonal / communication skills Evidence of good time management skills Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity Mandatory training for the management of violence and aggression Frequent exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances Occasional exposure to hazards verbal aggression
