Job summary We are excited to announce that, as part of our ongoing commitment to address issues of diversity and inclusion within the field of Clinical Psychology, and as a part of our wider responsibility to address social inequalities in healthcare, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust has successfully secured funding from Health Education England, for an assistant psychologist post as part of the Aspiring Clinical Psychologists Access Scheme.This scheme offers paid assistant psychology experience to recent psychology graduates who are eager to develop initial clinical experience as aspiring Clinical Psychologists, but their personal financial circumstances make opportunities offered by unpaid clinical work experience inaccessible.
This scheme is specifically designed to enable such graduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience, insight, and preparation for the next step in their journey towards qualifying, such as a substantive Assistant Psychologist post.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant will support and enhance psychological practice within the Children and Young People's Psychological Service (CYPPS), Blackpool, under the direct supervision of a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist.
As part of the scheme, you will also be supported to have access to peer development groups, which are provided within the Trust, as well as learning opportunities focussing on career development, in order to support success beyond this initiative.We hope that this post will offer a plethora of valuable experiences to the successful psychology graduate.

Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure Trust also provides a range of physical health and well-being services in the community alongside a range of partners in the Lancashire, Cumbria and Sefton area.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential An upper second class (2i) honours degree or higher in psychology.
Entitlement to Graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
Knowledge Essential Ability to undertake psychologically informed research projects.
Knowledge of psychological methods and theories, especially child development and an ability to apply this knowledge within a clinical context.
An understanding of the needs and difficulties of children/ young people with psychological/mental health difficulties or other disabilities.
High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
Experience Essential Experience of, or demonstrable interest in working with mental health difficulties and/or other disabilities.
Work with children and/or young people To have worked as part of a team within a care setting.
