Job summary We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Practitioner to join our specialist Ophthalmic Theatre Team.
Monday - Friday day shiftMonday - Sunday on-call commitment Main duties of the job ATPs are an integral part of the Surgical team.
They perform circulating and scrub roles for a limited range of surgical cases.
They work alongside Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) and Theatre Nurses to ensure that every operation is as safe and effective as possible.ATP's are expected to perform in the scrub role to exactly the same standard as an ODP or Theatre Nurse, albeit for a reduced range of cases.The ATP therefore needs a broad knowledge and skill base including communication skills requiring tact & persuasion, literacy and teamworking skills in order that they contribute to the smooth running of the theatre department.

Assisting in skin preparation and draping of the surgical field.2.
Supporting and observing the patient throughout the operation.3.
Assisting in the measurement and recording of fluid input/output.4.
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team for the benefit of the patient, appreciating each team members needs and role5.
Working alongside the surgeon, safely passing the correct surgical instruments and materials within the sterile filed in order to ensure safe and efficient completion of surgical procedures.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential National recognised ATP training course NVQ level 3 or above (Care or ODS or PCA) Experience Essential Knowledge of theatre procedures/protocols including surgical assistance, clinical observations, acquired through NVQ level 3, plus further training and experience equivalent to diploma level Significant experience of the theatre environment Skills Essential Good communication skills, both written and verbal Good interpersonal and teamworking skills under sometimes difficult & demanding conditions Attitude, aptitude Essential Effective role model, demonstrating NNUH's PRIDE values of People focussed, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence Demonstrates understanding and commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
