Job summary This role is a fixed term apprenticeship for 18 months.We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highlymotivated apprentice healthcare science assistant whocan demonstrate good clinical ability in the delivery of diagnostic cardiologycare.
You should be willing to develop your professionalpractice within a dynamic clinical environment.We offer training in a variety of skills and experience and activelysupport continuing professional development.
The duration of the apprenticeship is 18 months subject to regularreviews to demonstrate progress and following successful completion will moveinto a substantive position.
Apprenticeswill commence on Annex 21 of the salary stated and to support development in the role, thepostholder is required to complete a L2 Healthcare Science AssistantApprenticeship Standard over the period of the apprenticeship.
Maths andEnglish is required at GCSE minimum grade C/4 or Level 2 equivalent in themaths and English.A willingness to take on new roles andresponsibilities is essential within our dynamic service that aspires todeliver the very best of care to our patients.You must demonstrate both a caring and compassionate nature and anability to work effectively within a team.Prior experience of cardiology in primary, secondaryor tertiary care is desirable but not essential.
Main duties of the job Your role willinclude the provision of the following services to both inpatients andoutpatients across both main hospital sites and any future community basedprovision;performingelectrocardiogramsfittingof ambulatory monitorssupportingclinics and obtaining observations such as blood pressure , heart rates ,heights and weights workingalongside senior members of the team in clinics providing pacemaker and complexcardiac device follow-up and echocardiography.
Completeeducational requirements associated with the apprenticeship.There would bea requirement to work Bank Holidays and Weekends on successful completion oftraining.

Job description Job responsibilities PLEASE REFER TO THE ATTACHED JOB DESCRIPTION FOR FULL DUTIES OF THE ROLE.
Apprentices will undertake an initial structured departmental induction and training programme throughout the apprenticeship to provide support and assistance to the Cardiac Physiologists within the Diagnostic Cardiology Department as well as undertaking basic point of care investigations such as ECG, baseline observations and application and removal of ambulatory monitors and event recorders.
The main purpose of the department is to perform clinical physiology investigations with promptness, accuracy and thoroughness on patients with known or suspected heart disease and to do it in such a way as to provide excellent patient care.
The post holder will provide an electrocardiography recording service for both in and outpatients in a variety of settings.
The post holder will also be required to assist with Cardiology outpatient clinics.
Person Specification Experience Essential Previous experience of working with the public.
Desirable Evidence of involvement of support/development of less experienced staff.
Evidence of recent work based learning or self -directed learning.
Qualifications Essential Maths & English GCSE grade C/4 or above or L2 equivalent in same subjects.
Intermediate IT Skills.
Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional.
Willing to complete L2 Healthcare Science Assistant Apprenticeship Standard.
Desirable Experience of working within a cardiology environment on a ward or in an outpatient department.
Can perform an ECG correctly.
Can record a manual blood pressure.
Skills Essential Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise.
Ability to work on own initiative.
Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload and individual patient contact.
Desirable Understanding of basic physiology.
Attitude Essential Ability to work effectively as a team payer under appropriate supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Courteous, respectful and helpful at all times.
Ability to communicate with members of the public and health care providers.
Personal Qualities Essential Ability to work effectively as a team payer under appropriate supervision and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
