Successful candidates will initially be deployed in the Retail Market Intelligence & Stability team, working and collaborating closely with other teams to monitor the retail energy market to establish a sound evidence base for decision-making and policy-making.
This team is part of the Financial Resilience and Controls (FRC) Directorate.
You will contribute to regular monitoring and reporting on competition and/or customer protection indicators and on the assessment of the impacts of retail energy policies and regulation.
Person specification Key Responsibilities Contribute to the implementation of BAU activity to regularly monitor and analyse market evidence, including handling large data sets, running existing activity, and issuing new information requests to third parties.
Support the internal dissemination of retail market and consumer intelligence updates and insights for the benefit of senior managers and other colleagues across Ofgem.
Contribute to written deliverables (internal and external) such as analytical reports, briefings to senior managers and regulatory decisions.
Co-ordinate with colleagues on the delivery of unplanned data requests, often at pace.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to scope and agree any analytical input/evidence necessary for monitoring and policy purposes.
Collaborate with external stakeholders including other government departments, suppliers, and consumer bodies to ensure the timely and accurate provision of insights and analysis, where appropriate.
Essential Criteria Experience of providing analytical input or assurance into consultancy, government, policy, regulatory or energy sector projects that deliver benefits for consumers, communities, or society.
(LEAD CRITERIA) Good analytical skills, and ability to use a range of analytical approaches to add value to the policy development process.
Includes working with uncertainty to solve problems, formulate pragmatic options, and present actionable information to decision makers.
Effective in the use of data management and manipulation tools to produce insightful analysis - including proficiency in Excel and Power BI.
Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders that creates space for constructive, open, and transparent engagement.
Good written and verbal communication skills that effectively communicate analysis insights to non-expert audiences.
Desirable Criteria Good sector knowledge, including commercial understanding of the energy sector and/or consumer related issues.
Advanced technical data skills - e.g.
use of Python, SQL, or R.
